Jordan Hasay wins - Mission Prep runner closes out season with a victory          (from The Tribune)

Jordan Hasay capped her fabulous freshman season with another impressive victory in Thursday's 3,000-meter run at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis. Hasay, from Arroyo Grande, raced to a wire- to-wire victory, putting together a late kick to hold off a charge from two older runners. Running for the San Luis Distance Club, Hasay won her event in 9:50.66, leading a field that included runners ages 20 and under. "It's really an honor," she said. "I'm glad that I could come and do my best." The freshman called it an honor because she edged  runner-up Bridget Franek (9:51.04), a high school senior from Ohio, and third-place finisher Wendi Robinson (9:54.11), a freshman at Indiana State. Hasay said she continues to learn from every race, even when she's running away with the event. "You definitely keep on learning," she said. "You learn a lot about strategy and having someone push you from behind. It makes you a better all-around runner." Which begs the question, what's next for this talented South County runner? Hasay, who has been on the road the past two weeks, finally returns home to Arroyo Grande today and said she plans on doing nothing over the next two weeks. "I'm going to take a break for a little bit," she said. "Then, in two weeks, it's on to training for cross country."

LIVERMORE, JUNE 24 - PACIFIC ASSOCIATION USAT&F JUNIOR OLYMPICS (at Granada Hills High School):

ÒThe weather was hot and so was the track, but that did not keep the 'Roo Rats from advancing 7 out of 9 athletes to the next round for the USATF Region 14 Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in two weeks. That in itself is a 'Roo Rat record with seven advancing in 10 events. The top 8 from each event advance to the Region 14 qualifier for Nationals and even the two that did not advance ran PR's.Ó  - / from Jim Barodte / -
