Midget Boys 3K (309 finishers) 112. Jedd Hasay 11:12.    Youth Girls 4K (316 finishers) – 1. Jordan Hasay 14:19.   (For her performance, Jordan was named the Verizon Wireless ÒYouth Female Athlete of the MeetÓ.)

Race report from Joe Hasay - JeddÕs race: ÒWeather conditions were dismal – cold, rainy, snow flurries, and lots of wind. The track was very muddy and many kids fell.  Lots and lots and lots of kids – there was a good turnout with 250-300 kids per race. Jedd started off fast as usual, then settled into the pack.  At the 3/4 mile point I yelled to him and he gave me a big smile. HeÕs never done that so I knew it meant he was out there having fun!  He finished, according to him, 91st but IÕd say it was between #110-130. It was hard to see much because of all the spectators.  Everyone was running from one sight location to another to see the runners.  It was quite a mess because of the conditions and a race you just couldnÕt enjoy running or watching. . . JordanÕs race: Like JeddÕs race, there was a big group of runners (250-300). The race started very fast and, as is typical for Jordan, she sprinted furiously to get the lead the in the first 300 meters. She ran the first mile in 5:03 and had a 25 second lead! She finished in 14:19 with second place coming in at 14:43. Like Footlocker, Jordan was not comfortable at the start even though she knew the course because it was just too cold! Before her race, people kept talking about how everyone was falling and getting injured which didnÕt help. Despite the dreary conditions, it was a national champion from SLDC!Ó

Jordan Hasay Wins NatIonal Title! RUNNING PHENOM HASAY WINS JUNIOR OLYMPICS XC

From www.DyeStatcal.com (December 12) - Jordan Hasay, the 13-year old running phenom from Arroyo Grande, won the 2004 USA Track and Field Junior Olympic cross-country national championship yesterday in Shaumberg, Illinois. Jordan, running in the youth division (13-14), raced against over 300 girls from across the country winning the 4K with a time of 14.17. She was 24 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and shattered the previous course record of 14:48 set last year. ItÕs been quite an eventful year for the running star who is in the eighth grade at St. PatrickÕs school. This summer she won two gold medals in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in Eugene, Oregon where her times of 4:34.54 in the 1500M and 9:48.77 in the 3000M were both national records for youth girls. Jordan also holds the 5K national record for a 12 year old with a time of 17:05 and the national 5K record for 13 year olds with her mark of 16:49. States her coach Jim Barodte of the San Luis Distance Club, ÒJordan has proven consistently that she is one of the top runners in the nation in any age group. She has a very bright future ahead of her.Ó Remarkably, she was the first female finisher in every race she participated in this year including the dozen 5KÕs she raced, four of which she won overall, and she set new course records in every cross country meet she ran.

From www.usatf.org - Jordan Hasay of Arroyo Grande, California, and Kevin Havel of Arlington Heights, Illinois, were named the female and male Verizon Athletes of the Meet at Saturday's National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships, held at Busse Woods Forest Preserve in Shaumburg, Illinois. More than 2,500 athletes from age 8 to 18 and 200 teams from all 57 USATF Associations competed for boys' and girls' titles in 10 age divisions in cold, windy and muddy conditions. Team champions also were crowned in those divisions, as well as in a new high school age division. Competing in the youth girls division, the 13-year-old Hasay entered the championships as the nation's top runner in her age group. At the 2004 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships this summer, she set national records in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, and in August she set a pending 13-year-old 5 km road best of 17:05. Saturday she opened up a 20-second lead in the first half-mile of the race before cruising to a 24-second victory with a time of 14:19 over 4 km. For her race, Jordan also was named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week, an award designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week based on top performances from the previous week. Previous honorees this year include world class and Olympic athletes like Jearl Miles-Clark, Alan Culpepper, Gail Devers, Allen Johnson, Maurice Greene, Stacy Dragila, Alan Webb, Justin Gatlin, Joanna Hayes, Tim Broe, Nicole Blood, Dan Browne, & Meb Keflezighi.
