WOODSIDE, DECEMBER 3 - WOODSIDE TRAIL RUN: From John Fetcho -

ÒI was fortunate enough to be able to run the WoodsideTrail Run, part of the Pacific Coast Trail Run Series (Series Motto: runs that arenÕt races in beautiful places). I did the 19K and I had a blast! For the most part, the trails were in a redwood forest and so they were soft and easy on the legs. I didn't enjoy the uphill very much (the first 9.7 K), but the bulk of the remainder was downhill - steep in places. I loved it! And other than an encounter with a fence post, it was a lot of fun. If you haven't done one of the PC Trail Runs yet, you need to try it. When you get to my age, there aren't any races, just runs, so I try to do them in beautiful places (I love their motto). Anyway, I finished 15th overall in 1:43:20. Now that the semester is over, I'm hoping to come out on Wednesdays.Ó (PC Trail Runs is the group that sponsors the trail run in Montana de Oro.)          19K - 15. John Fetcho/Los Osos-SLDC 1:43:20.          Arroyo Grande's Hasay advances to cross country nationals - From The Tribune: Cross country runner Jordan Hasay of Arroyo Grande implemented a new strategy for her most important race of the season Saturday. After opening with the lead in every one of her prep races for Mission Prep this season, Hasay started slower at the Foot Locker Western Regional because of heightened competition. The decision paid off, as Hasay won the event with a time of 17:14.  "It was such a smart race," Mission Prep coach Leslie Monaco said. "Her strategy was awesome. She attacked a hill that made up five seconds." The third-seeded Hasay was 24 seconds faster than second-place finisher and top seed Marie Lawrence of Reno. "She is so passionate about running," Monaco said of Hasay." She just loves it. She's definitely self-motivated. We were all so excited and proud of her."

From DyeStat.com, ÒRace fans who wanted to see a great individual effort got to see an historic one as well as phenomenal freshman Jordan Hasay tied the Mt. SAC course record with a 17:14 and ran away from Marie Lawrence. Hasay used her hill running power to get a break on Lawrence, then pulled away on the airstrip and on the track. Her stunning 17:14 tied Amber TrotterÕs 2001 course record and gapped Lawrence by 24 seconds. How stunning was the time? Lawrence ran 18 seconds faster than she did last year and was more than 100 meters back.Ó

Freshman Hasay Races to West Regional Title, by Dan Arritt, Los Angeles Times: ÒThe anticipation came to an end Saturday at Mt. San Antonio College somewhere between "poop-out hill" and the top of the reservoir. That's the stretch of the 3.1-mile course where Jordan Hasay, a freshman at San Luis Obispo Mission Prep, pulled away from defending champion Marie Lawrence of Reno to win the Foot Locker West Regional in 17 minutes 14 seconds. "I never thought that I was going to win," said Hasay, who lives in Arroyo Grande. "I kept thinking Lawrence was going to pass me." In the boys' seeded race, a pack of eight runners approached the last 200 meters together, but A.J. Acosta beat Ben Sitler of by one second in 15:38.  Lompoc Cabrillo senior Michael Coe finished fourth in 15:42. The top eight finishers qualified for the Foot Locker National Championships at Balboa Park in San Diego.Ó

Footlocker Nationals - Jordan is in Rarified Air, by Steve Underwood (from DyeStat.com)

After applying staggering midrace pressure that no one could answer, Mission PrepÕa Jordan Hasay showed the rest of the country what California has seen all year: When ÒAir JordanÓ is in full flight, sheÕs unstoppable. With her stunning last 1.5 miles on a warm, sunny day, Hasay became the second freshman to be crowned champion in the 27 years of the Foot Locker Finals. The biggest obstacle for Hasay to was defending champion Aisliinn Ryan of NY. Bidding to add her name to those who have won here twice, Ryan put her foot on the accelerator from the start. Amazingly, she couldnÕt pull away from the field by more than a few seconds as she led through the mile in 5:18, leading a stream of others at 5:20. But those followers fell back and were replaced by two-time runner-up Marie Lawrence and Hasay. Ryan got a gap on Hasay the first time down the big hill, but then the freshman made it up on the flat. Just past the two-mile mark, Hasay started to push it and quickly it was all over. The other contenders were depleted from the energy theyÕd spent to that point and she seemed amazingly fresh. Lawrence pulled away from the others to become the first three-time runnerup in meet history with a 17:19 with Ryan following at 17:34.
