BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA, DECEMBER 1 - TECUMSEH TRAIL MARATHON (451 finishers):

168. Jennifer Eichelberger/Cayucos-SLDC (7F-35/39) 4:37:02.  From Jennifer: ÒI ran the Tecumseh Trail Marathon in southern Indiana this weekend. I'd recommend this run to anyone who loves trail running, does not mind dealing with some difficult footing, and enjoys running in cold weather. It was fantastic! Most of the run is on single-track trails through hilly forests (3500Õ gained, 3800Õ lost over the course). There are a lot of leaves on the ground this time of year, and roots and rocks can be tricky. I only had one wipeout and no injuries, so I considered the run a success. It is also hunting season in Indiana, so the race directors recommended bright clothing. We did see a few armed fellows who looked a bit bemused at the spectacle of runners in the forest but we were apparently too scrawny to be considered good game. The event has outstanding support with aid stations every 2 to 3 miles and friendly volunteers. As Janet Norem said about the Bizz Johnson Trail Marathon, this event is one of the few marathons where you might gain weight over the course. The aid stations were unusually well stocked with miscellaneous snacks as well as fluids. At mile 24, you could even stop for a hot chocolate or coffee and ginger snaps if you wanted to take a break before pushing on to the finish. Although I did not get a PR on this course, the fine Hoosier hospitality made it a great experience.Ó

SAN DIEGO, DECEMBER 8 - FOOTLOCKER NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS:

Girls - 1. Ashley Brasovan/FL 17:20 .. 2. Kathy Kroeger/TN 17:28 .. 3. Jordan Hasay/CA-SLDC 17:31.

From LetsRun.com - Jordan Hasay, the 2005 champ, took things out hard and immediately opened up a gap on the field in the first 1000m. Hasay went through the mile in 5:18 with the chase pack consisting of the other regional winners 20 or 30 meters behind. Hasay increased her lead during the second mile. Slowly, the chasers began to eat into Hasay's lead over the last mile with Florida's Ashley Brasovan leading the charge. Brasovan finally caught Hasay and while Hasay put up a fight, she could not keep up after her fast early pace. Brasovan got the win in 17:20, followed by the last 2 national champs, Kroeger and Hasay. Hasay gutted it out over the last stretch to get 3rd. The top 3 have now all won a national championship and are back next year to wage an unprecedented battle.

Jory Hallinan/1-60+ (won division by six minutes) 1:30:45.  (246 finishers)     From Jory - ÒThis hilly course begins and ends at sea level but elevates to 700Õ in the middle. About seven miles is trail run with plenty of dry creek dips (this year) to break the monotony.  About five miles, including the serious hill, is paved fire road. The winner, a former Buena High runner, ran the course in 67 minutes. In the early years, Lasse Viren participated several times but never won the race. Other prominent runners over the years have included Frank Shorter & Grete Waitz, who holds the women's course record. The menÕs course record is 58:33 by Adrian Royle from the early 1980Õs. . . It's late news but the Bearcat Wrestling Turkey Trot 10 K on Thanksgiving Day raised over $1200,split evenly between the wrestling program & Loaves and Fishes. Ivan Huff & Travis Hallanan led the participants with a 36:50 time. First woman was Marit Koch, coach of the Paso girls' cross country team. T-shirts & post race refreshments were courtesy of Food 4 Less. A good time was had by all and the wrestlers were able to eat later in the day and still maintain their weight classes.
