SAN LUIS OBISPO, MAY 22 Ð JAMBA JUICE BANANAMAN CHASE 5K & YOUTH MILE:

With prizes of a smoothie a week for a year/six months/three months to the top three finishers (retail value = $200/100/$50), this race drew a quick field that posted fast times on the flat course on roads and trails within the park. With merchandise prizes, drawings, refreshments, and a lot of publicity, it also drew a large crowd of 290 for the 5K, 75 for the Healthy KidÕs mile (ages 7-12), and a few more in the 100 yard dash for ages 6 & under. The size of the field caused the organizers to have staggered starts for the men and women and resulted in a few timing problems (indicated by N/A below). SIERRA MADRE, MAY 29 Ð 38TH MT. WILSON TRAIL RACE (289 finishers):

1. Matt Ebiner 59:09 .. 16. Henry Hernandez/SLDC (1st-50+) 1:12:44. Henry turned 50 earlier in the week and celebrated his birthday by running in his favorite race from his long ago days in southern California. ARROYO GRANDE, MAY 30 Ð 18TH ANNUAL STRAWBERRY STAMPEDE:

There was the usual big turnout on a warm, sunny morning in the south county for this popular event that is held in conjunction with the Strawberry Festival. On hand were over 30 runners from SLDC, led in the short race by Jordan Hasay and in the longer run by Thomas Reiss. With awards three deep in five year age divisions in each race, over half (21 out of 37) went home with a medal and everyone went home having consumed their share of the strawberries given out as part of the post-race refreshments.  / www.strawberrystampede.com /

A dozen members were among the 40 people who showed up for this hot, hilly run through the back roads of the camp. Results arenÕt available but those who ran, in approximate order of finish, were Matt Ruane (1st), Steve von Dohlen (2nd), Paul Lee (would have placed higher but missed a turn near the finish), John Tiffin (5th), Kristie Lukes (8th), Stan Rosenfield (10th), George McClintock (13th), Bill Garrett (15th), Jim Murray (16th), Russ Raymond (18th), & Rick Thomas. Proceeds from the run went to the CampÕs Museum Fund.
