SAN LUIS OBISPO, MAY 22 Ð JAMBA JUICE BANANAMAN CHASE 5K
& YOUTH MILE:
With prizes of a smoothie a week for a year/six months/three months to the top three finishers (retail value = $200/100/$50), this race drew a quick field that posted fast times on the flat course on roads and trails within the park. With merchandise prizes, drawings, refreshments, and a lot of publicity, it also drew a large crowd of 290 for the 5K, 75 for the Healthy KidÕs mile (ages 7-12), and a few more in the 100 yard dash for ages 6 & under. The size of the field caused the organizers to have staggered starts for the men and women and resulted in a few timing problems (indicated by N/A below). In a change from most road races, the largest participation by far was in the 20/29 age group (entrants by division in parenthesis below). / www.active.com /

ARROYO GRANDE, MAY 30 Ð 18TH ANNUAL STRAWBERRY
STAMPEDE:
There was the usual big turnout on a warm, sunny morning in
the south county for this popular event that is held in conjunction with the
Strawberry Festival. On hand were over 30 runners from SLDC, led in the short
race by Jordan Hasay and in the longer run by Thomas Reiss. With awards three
deep in five year age divisions in each race, over half (21 out of 37) went
home with a medal and everyone went home having consumed their share of the
strawberries given out as part of the post-race refreshments. / www.strawberrystampede.com /
