CERRITOS. JUNE 3 - CALIFORNIA STATE HIGH SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Mission PrepÕs Hasay wins state title    By Joshua  Scroggin, The Tribune

NORWALK — Mission Prep freshman Jordan Hasay ended her first track season still in love with the sport and a state champion in the girls 3200 meters. "I hope I can keep going," Hasay said. "I love it." With her win, Hasay became the RoyalsÕ first-ever track and field state champion. The 5-foot-2 Hasay beat runner-up Annie St. Geme of Corona Del Mar by more than 5 seconds with GlendoraÕs Christy Adamyk another 10 seconds back. The three pushed the pace from the beginning with Adamyk falling off midway through lap four. Hasay, whoÕd taken the lead at the beginning, had St. Geme a couple of steps behind her until the fifth lap. "I knew St. Geme had never gone out that fast before," Hasay said. Betting that St. Geme, whoÕd already run the 1600, would tire before she would, Hasay had the gamble pay off with a solid win.              Girls 3200M - 1. Jordan Hasay/Mission Prep 10:13.55.

SANTA MARIA, JUNE 3 - HERITAGE OAKS BANK SANTA MARIA STYLE ELKS RODEO & PARADE 5K:

From John M. Tiffin, ÓThere were only around 45-50 entries for the Santa Maria Heritage Oaks Bank 5K, which is too bad as it's a nice, flat out-and-back course. In fact, that was down from the 65-70 entries in 2005.  This year there was another 5K on the same day at the YMCA in SLO and also the Marianne Talley 5K in Arroyo Grande the next day so maybe those drew some runners away.  Oddly enough, this is the only race around here I've run that has used timing chips and yet it had one of the smallest turnouts.Ó
