JSR Race Notes - Charlie Joslin not only had the fastest SLDC split time of the day but had the fastest anchor leg of all the teams in the masters division. That brought SLDC from 4th to 3rd and earned a medal for each of the team members. Second fastest masters anchor went to Kevin Cooper, whose team placed 5th. . . The women, third out of 24 teams in the Running Club division, were also the third fastest women’s team overall out of the 73 that competed. . . The women and coed masters teams were evenly matched, trading places several times during the race and finishing less than a minute apart. There were several times when SLDC had 2 teams coming through the exchange zone at the same time. . . A few split times were missing or incorrect in the last issue. Neil Wilcox ran 36:08, just 7 seconds behind James Manning. Stephanie Shuck’s time was 34:28, not 68:23 as shown which was the cumulative time at the end of her leg. . . Justin Stevens ran 33:30 for the Von’s Central Coast team, which took 46th in 3:02:56, two places and less than a minute behind the SLDC masters. . . Jim Brown’s Foothill Flashers came in 148th in 3:27:47. . . Making their SLDC team racing debut were Dane Jones, George McClintock, Nick Riesz, Peter Romwall, & Bobbi Tomkins. . . SLDC had 18 entrants in the 5K and 12 of them were award winners, none under the age of 40. The club made up for this by having 4 age group place winners in the kid’s race for those 13 & under. Former early 1980’s AGHS cross country runner, long ago SLDC member and Talley Vineyards race host Brian Talley must have been training since last year as he cut more than a minute off his 2001 time, moved up 10 places, and only had to give out two "I Beat the Vintner" shirts.
