LOMPOC, MAY 8 – LOMPOC VALLEY DISTANCE CLUBÕS LA PURISIMA MISSION 5K & 10K:

From Stan Coombs – ŌThere were only two SLDC runners in the 5K and none in the 10K. The 5K was closer to 2.5 miles than 3.1 since it was made up of a convenient portion of the 10K, which was "pretty close" to a 10K.  My time for the short 5K was 24:12 for 11th place while Anne Klinger ran 27:10, good for 16th.  I did not get the total number of entrants for either race. It was small but fun since there were a lot of familiar faces. The 5K course was on pretty solid sand, fine gravel, and old pavement while the 10K had some trails and a few more hills.Ķ (The short race had 23 runners and 10 walkers and was won by Cabrillo HS/Cal Poly grad Kent Yankee in 14:27 while the 10K had 19 finishers and was won by Jeff Kemblowski of Lompoc in 35:48.)

SANTA MARIA, MAY 14 – BULL CANYON RUNS:

This race had $900 in prize money with checks to the top three men and women overall in each race plus the top 40+ and 50+ men and women in each race. Matt Ruane, Mike Kinter, & Liz North all picked up some money while Wayne Tyo (5K) & Stan Reyes (10K) ran well but werenÕt fast enough to overcome one-time 2:18 marathoner Tom McKeown in the 50+ division in either race. Dave Bourne & John Carmichael were back on the roads again after lengthy illnesses. Proceeds from the run went to benefit the Special Olympics as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Relay program. In addition to the runners, there were 68 people in the 5K walk and 37 in the 10K walk.
