SACRAMENTO, APRIL 29 - MEET OF CHAMPIONS:

1600M - 1. Jordan Hasay/Mission Prep 4:43.09 (#1 high school girls time in the U.S. in 2006, #7 all-time California HS) .. 2. Alex Kosinski/Oak Ridge 4:45.96.     3200M - 1. Jordan Hasay 10:21.34 .. 2. Marie Lawrence/Reno 10:25.47.

Track and field: Two runners shatter record in girls' 1,600 - By Melody Gutierrez -- Sacramento Bee Staff Writer

Alex Kosinski could see the long blond hair swinging back and forth on a small tan girl while rounding the final corner of the 1,600 meters at the 26th Meet of Champions at Hughes Stadium. Kosinski closed in on Jordan Hasay of Mission Prep with 300 meters to go. Then Hasay - a petite freshman who holds the national age record in the 3,200 - began to pull away. Hasay cruised to the finish line in 4:43.09. "She's amazing," said Jerry Colman, event director for the Meet of Champions. "I've never seen someone run so effortlessly." Kosinski finished in 4:45.96 as both times broke the meet record. The race was one of the highlights during the all-day meet, which was punctuated by warm weather and a nice breeze. It was the third consecutive year Kosinski finished second in the 1,600 meters at the meet despite posting personal records in each race. Kosinski rebounded from the second-place finish to take first in the 800 meters in 2:10.82. Hasay, her competition in the 1,600, won the 3,200-meter race in a meet record time of 10:21.

ÒMiracle Miles was a huge success with 814 finishers and we are still calculating how much money was raised for the foster and special needs children that the Family Care Network serves. We had 38 volunteers from Grizzly Academy and numerous volunteers from the community.  Participants enjoyed a rain-free day on a beautiful coastline course and great live music by "Rhodes", a tri-tip BBQ, raffles, and vendor booths.Ó

SANTA MARIA, MAY 6 - BULL CANYON 5K & 10K LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RELAY RUNS - It was a perfect day for running with temperatures in the low 50Õs on an overcast, drizzly morning. Both the 5K & 10k are out-and-back courses on a country road with ag land on both sides and there were plenty of post-race refreshments with sports drinks, bottled water, bananas, apples, and two types of energy bars. There were lots of awards with specialized gold-silver-bronze race medals to the top three in each five year age division of each race, participant medals to all finishers, and framed certificates to the top three open finishers and all age group winners. SLDC had an excellent showing in the latter with Paul Lee, David Jeffrey, Joe Camporeale, Liz North, Marci Mora, Chris Shuck, Anne Klinger (joined by her sister Phyllis, visiting from Michigan), Sean McRae, Stan Reyes, Ardy Janku, & Debbie Dorney all winning their respective categories. Photos of the winners appear on the race web site. The race was held in conjunction with the Law Enforcement Torch Run and proceeds went to benefit the Special Olympics.                     - / Directed by Ken George; www.bcrun.org / -
