LOMPOC, MARCH 31 - SCOTT WILLIAMS MEMORIAL 5K: From John Tiffin -
ŌHere
are a few results from this race, which drew 50-60 participants and was held on
a nice cross-country course across the road from the federal prison in Lompoc.
Tom McKeown won the race in 18:20 with Kent Yankee second at 18:38
and Vincent Leedham third in in 19:53. Kent & Vincent also won
the 20-29 and 15-19 age groups respectively while Tom was 1st in the "49
& up" category. I was 7th overall and 4th in the same age group
as Tom in 21:45. And I thought I'd gotten away from him when I turned
60! The organizers did say they'd create additional age groups for us
more "seasoned" runners next year. A nice chicken BBQ followed the
race and all age place winners received plaques as their awards.Ķ

Invitational Two Mile - Jordan Hasay/Mission Prep 10:07.65. . . Hasay
makes mark at elite event (from The Tribune) - Jordan HasayÕs strategy not to run the mile at the
Arcadia Invitational paid off in a big way Saturday night. The Mission Prep
sophomore had more than enough energy to win the girls two-mile run in
10:07.65,12 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. And HasayÕs time
came at an event that in its 39 years has featured 101 eventual U.S. Olympians.
"This is definitely the biggest race IÕve been at so far this
season," Hasay said. "I was pretty nervous today. I feel much better
now that the race is over. I had a lot of fun." Woodridge junior Christine
Babcock was second in 10:23.39. "The field was about the same as last
year," Hasay said. "I went out for the first mile in 4:57, which was
the fastest IÕve gone in the two-mile." Hasay did not reach her goal of
finishing under 10 minutes for the first time in her career but was still
satisfied with the end result. "I didnÕt run under 10:00, but IÕm
pleased," she said. "I still have more chances."
