Jordan Hasay wins her third straight Clovis Invitational       (From The Tribune, by Lisa Houk)

After Hasay easily won the girls championship race in 17:23 at the Clovis Invitational on Saturday, she was surrounded by fans and runners of all ages clamoring for her attention. She signed autographs on shoes, slippers, and T-shirts and posed for photos after her win. Hasay had taken just four steps out of the finishing chute when she met the crowd. ÒIÕm getting used to all the people but sometimes I need to rest,Ó said Hasay, who owns a PR of 17:02 on the 3.1-mile course. ÒI wanted to go out conservatively for the first mile and then see what I had left for the last two.Ó Hasay ran a 5:25 first mile and kept a 5:38 pace to capture her third straight Clovis Invitational. She didnÕt match her top time of 17:17, the third fastest in the 29 year history of the meet. ÒI was hoping to finish around 17:00 but itÕs OK,Ó she said. ÒI was pretty excited on the last mile but my first mile was slow for me because I usually go out in 5:20.Ó  Hasay did set a course record for attracting the most people at the first-mile marker. About 500 people ran down the hill from the start to see her come through. Hasay, whoÕs been running 7 miles per day in workouts, is preparing for the Mt. SAC Invitational on October 20.

The race was a good combination of age and youth as the first three runners were in the 50/59 division and 10 of the next 25 were 13 & under. The race had 122 finishers and was directed by Jennifer Rubio on behalf of the Chris Jesperson Memorial Society, which supports children with physical and developmental delays.

Hasay wins Cal Poly Invitational in record time (From the Tribune, by Tristan Aird) - Jordan Hasay was ill part of the week, not that it showed. Hasay recovered from a virus and wound up winning the girls Divisions IV and V race at the VS Athletics/Cal Poly Invitational. Her 17:21 on the Fairbanks course was by far the fastest time ever run by a girl at the event. And she did that after not deciding to compete until 12 hours before she had to run. ÒI had some swollen lymph nodes and I wasnÕt 100 percent,Ó Hasay said, between signing autographs after the race. ÒI wasnÕt planning to run but I started to feel better so we decided that I should go for it.Ó When Hasay arrived at the course, a buzz was set off for people hoping to watch the runner who took second in the 1500 meters at the World Youth Track Championships in July. Hasay led from the onset, coming in more than two minutes before the second place finisher.
