GROVER BEACH, AUGUST 17 - 17TH ANNAL DUNE RUN RUNS: The revised courses turned out to be long but that didnÕt bother Ben Shuck, who added this win to the one he had two weeks ago at the Stride with the Tide 5K in Pismo Beach. The races had a total turnout of 150 with 35 people taking part in the 5K walk. These events, directed by Alexis Hiney of the Grover Beach Parks & Recreation Department, were held in conjunction with an ethnic food and music festival. MORRO BAY, SEPTEMBER 10 - MORRO BAY HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL: More than 40      SLDC members were on hand as coaches, athletes, and spectators for the season opener. Jordan Hasay, the subject of a feature article on page 1 of The TribuneÕs sports section the day before, showed why as she made her high school debut and won by over two minutes, beating all but a dozen of the Varsity Boys. Runner-up Hannah Huff, who started her road racing career as a 9 year old at the RRCA WomenÕs Distance Festival,, was more than 30 seconds ahead of third place. Coaches and assistant coaches on hand included Ivan Huff (Paso Robles), Leslie Monaco (Mission Prep), Adolfo Lopez (Santa Maria), Luis Escobar (Righetti), Steve Boaz & Ron Swart (San Luis Obispo), & Nick Riesz (Atascadero).

SAN LUIS OBISPO, SEPTEMBER 24 - FAIRBANKS MEMORIAL YOUTH CROSS COUNTRY MEET:

         These races, directed by Jim, Renee, & Bryant Barodte had a total of 124 finishers, including entrants from as far away as Reno & Sacramento. Schools represented included McFarland, Laguna (SLO), Lillian Larsen (San Miguel), McKenzie (Guadalupe), Alvin, Taylor, Mesa (Nipomo), Paulding (Arroyo Grande), Atascadero Junior High, and Fesler (Santa Maria) while USAT&F clubs competing were the Salinas Valley TC, Silver State Striders, Santa Cruz TC, Buffalo Chips, Pleasanton Heat, and the Los Gatos AA. The Brian Waterbury Youth Team plaque went to McFarland with 44 points followed by Fesler in second with 85.
